Color Me Zero

The original blog for today was about seeing colors in numbers and letters. At the time, I did not know it had a neurological name and only affects 4% of the population. At this point, I am uncomfortable with the concept and have deleted the original post and most of the replies. No offense meant to the people who posted.

The condition is called synesthesia, and while not terribly common, it's not terribly rare, either. Turns out that you have one of the more common forms of this condition, seeing colors in numbers and letters. A friend of mine has a rarer form, where she senses sounds as smell or taste: she says I sound like blueberries, so I guess that's okay.

I find the condition fascinating, but I feel like I'd be rude to talk about it, not knowing if people who have the condition are embarrassed by it, or annoyed, or simply don't want to talk about it.

THAT'S IT!

I've seen letters and numbers in color all my life. Some words look ugly because the colors clash with each other, while other words are beautiful and so lovely that I'd frame them if I had the wall space.

I did think others saw things this way, which is why I wrote this post so naturally.

Thanks so much!
